3.2 Payment and Security Deposit: To rent a Power Bank, tap or insert an Authorized Card on the card reader at the CUUB Station. Upon successful Payment, which includes the Hourly Rate and a refundable Security Deposit, the station will dispense a Power Bank.
3.3 Power Bank Dispensing: Once Payment is processed, the CUUB Station will release a Power Bank. Follow any instructions on the Station Screen to remove the Power Bank properly.
3.4 Rental Period: Your Rental Period begins when you remove the Power Bank from the CUUB Station. The Power Bank can be used for a maximum of 24 hours, after which additional fees may apply if the Power Bank is not returned.
3.5 Using the Power Bank: Use the Power Bank to charge your devices as needed. Follow all usage guidelines displayed on the Power Bank and in these Terms to avoid damage or misuse.
4.1 Locating a CUUB Station for Return: You may return the Power Bank to any CUUB Station, not limited to the station where you originally rented it. CUUB Stations are strategically placed across Partner Locations like universities and shopping centers, making it convenient to return the Power Bank wherever you are in Chicago.
4.2 Preparing the Power Bank for Return: Before returning, ensure that the Power Bank is in good condition, free from visible damage and that all attached cables are correctly fitted back into the Power Bank. Users are responsible for checking that the Power Bank functions properly to qualify for a Valid Return and avoid additional charges.
4.3 Inserting the Power Bank for Return: Locate an open slot at any CUUB Station. To return the Power Bank, position it with the cables facing down and the arrow pointing toward the station, as shown on the Station Screen instructions. Insert the Power Bank carefully into the slot until you hear a click, indicating that it has locked securely into place. This sound confirms a successful return.
4.4 Completion of Return: Once the Power Bank is secured in the slot, the CUUB Station will register your return. The system will calculate the total rental duration and apply the appropriate charges based on the Hourly Rate. Your Security Deposit will then be released back to your payment method, minus any applicable rental fees. The return process is complete once you receive confirmation on the Station Screen.
4.5 Late Returns: CUUB allows a 5-minute grace period for returning the Power Bank after each hourly charge interval. If you do not return the Power Bank within this grace period, the next hourly charge will apply. Users who fail to return the Power Bank within the 24-hour Rental Period may forfeit the Security Deposit.
4.6 Lost or Damaged Power Banks: If a Power Bank is lost or damaged during your rental, you are responsible for covering the replacement or repair costs. CUUB does not charge late fees but will continue to charge hourly until the Power Bank is returned or reported lost. Failure to complete a Valid Return may lead to additional charges.
5.1 Accepted Payment Methods: CUUB Stations accept a range of payment methods, including all major credit and debit cards, as well as mobile payment options compatible with tap or insert card readers.
5.2 Hourly Rate: The rental fee is calculated on an hourly basis, with the rate displayed on the Station Screen before initiating a rental. Users are charged per hour of use, and this fee applies continuously until the Power Bank is returned.
5.3 Security Deposit: A refundable Security Deposit is held on your payment card at the time of rental. This deposit serves as a safeguard and will be refunded once the Power Bank is returned in good condition and within the 24-hour Rental Period.
5.4 Grace Period: CUUB offers a 5-minute grace period after each hourly charge interval for returning the Power Bank. If you return the Power Bank within this time, you will not incur an additional hourly charge. However, if you exceed this grace period, the next hourly charge will automatically apply.
5.5 Continuous Charging Until Return: If the Power Bank is not returned, hourly charges will continue to apply up to the 24-hour Rental Period limit. After this time, CUUB will consider the Power Bank unreturned, and the Security Deposit may be forfeited.
5.6 Refund of Security Deposit: Upon a Valid Return, CUUB will release the Security Deposit back to your payment method. The refund will reflect any applicable rental fees based on the total hours used. Please note that the refund may take a few business days to appear, depending on your bank's processing times.
5.7 Additional Charges for Loss or Damage: If the Power Bank is lost, damaged, or returned in a condition that does not meet CUUB’s Valid Return requirements, CUUB reserves the right to apply additional charges to cover repair or replacement costs. In such cases, the Security Deposit may be withheld in full or in part. If the security deposit is insufficient, then you will be liable to cover the remaining cost.
6.1 Permitted Uses: The Power Bank is provided for the sole purpose of charging your personal electronic devices. Users should use the Power Bank responsibly and for its intended purpose only.
6.2 Safety Instructions: Users are advised to follow any safety warnings displayed on the Power Bank and the Station Screen. Improper handling of the Power Bank could result in injury or damage to your devices.
6.3 Return Location: Ensure that the Power Bank is only returned to a CUUB Station. Returning the Power Bank to any non-CUUB location, or attempting to use it with non-CUUB charging stations, is not permitted and may prevent a Valid Return.
6.4 Liability for Improper Use: Any misuse of the Power Bank that results in damage to CUUB property, third-party devices, or harm to others will be the sole responsibility of the user. CUUB reserves the right to pursue damages for violations of these Usage Guidelines.

7.2 Overheating: Do not expose the Power Bank to temperatures above 50°C. High temperatures can impair the device’s functionality, cause overheating, and increase safety risks, potentially leading to fire hazards.
7.3 Disassembly, Modification, or Tampering: Attempting to disassemble, modify, or tamper with the Power Bank in any way is strictly prohibited. Unauthorized alterations, such as inserting hacking devices or other electronic modifications, could harm the Power Bank and pose safety risks. CUUB is not liable for damages caused by tampered devices and reserves the right to recover costs for any such damage.
7.4 Physical Abuse or Intentional Damage: Do not throw, crush, puncture, or otherwise physically abuse the Power Bank. Any deliberate or careless physical damage could render the device unusable and result in repair or replacement costs charged to the user.
7.5 Unauthorized Returns: The Power Bank must be returned exclusively to authorized CUUB Stations. Returning it to any non-CUUB station or unauthorized location will prevent a Valid Return and may lead to the forfeiture of the Security Deposit or additional fees.
7.6 Use for Unintended Purposes: The Power Bank is intended solely for charging compatible electronic devices. It must not be used for purposes other than device charging, such as attempting to power other equipment or using it in ways that could lead to damage, data breaches, or physical hazards.
7.7 Violation of Partner Location Policies: Users must respect and follow the policies of CUUB’s Partner Locations. This includes abiding by rules set by universities, shopping centers, or other establishments where CUUB Stations are located. Violating these policies may result in removal from the premises and additional consequences.
7.8 Insertion of Foreign Objects: Users are prohibited from inserting any foreign objects or devices into the Power Bank or CUUB Station slots. Any attempt to alter or insert unauthorized items into CUUB equipment may result in service disruption, device damage, and liability for costs.
7.9 Usage of Multiple Power Banks for Commercial Purposes: CUUB Power Banks are for individual use only and are not intended for commercial or bulk rentals. Using multiple Power Banks for business purposes, reselling CUUB services, or attempting to monetize CUUB equipment without permission is strictly prohibited.
7.10 Failure to Report Damage: If a Power Bank is damaged or malfunctions during use, users are required to report it immediately to CUUB via the contact information provided. Continuing to use a damaged Power Bank without notifying CUUB may lead to increased liability and repair costs.
7.11 Attempting Unauthorized Access to CUUB Systems: Users must not attempt to access or interfere with CUUB’s software, systems, or data. Unauthorized access to CUUB’s systems, such as trying to bypass security settings or hacking into CUUB technology, is prohibited and may result in legal action.
